Durango, CO: The Durango Police are investigating a fatal shooting of an adult male at Santa Rita Park, 149 S. Camino del Rio. 

At 9:33 p.m. on October 23, the department received a call of a shooting. A deceased male, 47, and three others suffered gunshot wounds. The surviving victims were all juvenile males, one 15-year-old and two 17-year-olds. The two 17-year-old victims were flown to major city hospitals and remain in critical condition.

The Durango La Plata Communication Center immediately sent an “attempt to locate” for the suspect vehicle. The car was spotted at 9:56 p.m. and stopped at 9:59 p.m. on Camino del Rio near Home Depot. Two suspects were identified and taken into custody, and a third person was located and arrested: a 19-year-old male and two 17-year-old males from the Ignacio area. 

Police released on Oct. 25 the status of the victims:

• One 17-year-old victim remains in stable condition in the ICU of a major city hospital.
• One 17-year-old victim remains in critical but stable condition in the ICU of a major city hospital.
• One 15-year-old victim was discharged from Mercy Regional Medical Center on Oct. 24.

"We want to offer our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims because of this tragic event," said Police Chief Bob Brammer. "We thank the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, Mercy Medical Center, Durango La Plata Communication Center, San Juan Regional Medical Center, Farmington PD, and the Durango Fire Protection District for their help and care in this challenging situation. Public safety is always our concern, and we believe all suspects have been apprehended and charged and the evidence indicates the incident stemmed from a previous altercation."

The department asks the public for patience today as it diligently works the crime scene at Santa Rita Park. "We will stay close to the facts and release as much information as possible, as this remains an active homicide investigation," said Brammer.
