Durango, CO: The City of Durango will host a neighborhood meeting Wednesday, May 17, 5:30-6:30 p.m. for the Downtown Durango Hotel construction in the 400 block of East Second Avenue.
The meeting will be held at the City Council Chambers, 949 East Second Ave. This is an open-house format with no formal presentation, where neighbors can learn about the hotel’s construction schedule, traffic control during construction, and speak with city staff and hotel representatives.
Construction activity at the hotel site has resumed and the City of Durango's Community Development Department understands the importance of maintaining access to businesses and minimizing impacts on surrounding properties.
The developer has a building permit for the foundation and is preparing to place the pre-cast concrete foundation walls. The garage structure will be set with a crane toward the end of May and continue for approximately 13 weeks. To accomplish this phase, East Second Avenue in the 400 block will have one lane closed during the workday. A flagger will direct two-way traffic. At the end of the workday both lanes will be open.
Toward the end of September, the modular units which make up the hotel rooms will be set in place. This phase will extend for approximately three weeks and include lane closures along East Second Avenue and Fifth Street.
The project is a joint effort between AC Hotels (Marriott) and The Hampton Inn & Suites. In September, the modular units for the Hampton will be staged offsite and moved in daily for placement. The AC Marriot Hotel construction will begin sometime in January and last for about two to three weeks with similar lane closures.
