Durango, CO: An update on plans to develop 1,850 acres on Ewing Mesa as a cultural and recreational playground known as Durango Mesa Park will be given from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Monday, March 13 at City Hall, 949 East Second Ave.
The presentation by city staff and representatives of the Durango Mesa Park Foundation will offer progress on the development of the park. Plans for the construction of new trails that connect the park to the Horse Gulch trail network will be available, and which include a redesigned trailhead at Horse Gulch, set to be completed late summer 2023. The city and foundation are also in the process of developing a master plan for the bike park and BMX facility at the park.
The foundation intends submit plans for annexation of the park into city limits. Information on that process, including the status of needed infrastructure and timeline, will be available at the open house.
“We’re excited to share the progress we’ve been making over the past several years on realizing the community-led vision for Durango Mesa Park,” said Moira Compton, executive director for Durango Mesa Park Foundation. “This is a complex project with a lot of moving parts but through our partnership with the city of Durango, we are finally going to be able to open access to the park via new Demonstration Trails as soon as this summer.”
For more information on the park visit the foundation's website, or the city’s website.
