Free Energy Assessments Available to Area Residents

Free Energy Assessments

Fall is here, and the temperatures are dropping, and that means it’s a great time to think about home energy efficiency. The Four Corners Office of Resource Efficiency is currently offering free home energy assessments and support on home energy efficiency throughout our region. The EnergySmart Colorado program provides residential energy efficiency services including access to audits, information about upgrades, rebates, financing options, connections to local contractors and more. The City of Durango recently awarded 4CORE $4,650 through the Green Durango Grant program toward increasing capacity to provide this service to our community.

The EnergySmart program is specifically available to residents in the 80-100% range of area median income (AMI). For residents below the 80% 4CORE also offers the Colorado Affordable Residential Energy (CARE) program. Through this program, an authorized energy adviser will visit the home to install free energy efficient products, assess the property for major efficiency opportunities, and educate the client on their energy usage. Once the adviser has completed their assessment, they will coordinate with local contractors to install the most cost-effective efficiency measures in the home. Residents should contact Molly Morris at to see which program they may qualify for.

In addition to 4CORE’s programs, our regional energy utility providers, La Plata Electric Association (LPEA), Atmos Energy, and Black Hills energy offer a variety of rebates and incentives for ways to make your home more energy efficiency. Atoms Energy is currently offering free home energy and water saving kits through their rebate website.
