City Council candidates Jessika Buell, Olivier Bosmans and Melissa Youssef received the most votes for three open seats on Durango City Council according to preliminary election results. Voters also approved ballot issue 1A, which increases the city lodgers’ tax from 2% to 5.25%.
See full preliminary election results at DurangoGov.org/Elections. Results will be certified on April 14.
Buell, Bosmans and Youssef were voted in at-large and will represent all city residents. This will be Youssef's second City Council term. Buell and Bosmans will fill seats vacated by Chris Bettin and Mayor Dean Brookie, who was term limited.
The winners of the election will attend an orientation April 8 and April 9 and will officially be sworn in as councilors on April 20.
Revenues from the lodgers' tax increase will go toward tourism marketing, transportation services and arts and cultural events and programs. The increase is effective June 1, 2021.
