Durango Public Library has a new collection designed to assist adults in discussing sensitive subjects with children. Materials, including books, a guide on talking to kids about difficult subjects and a list of resources, are organized into “Tough Topics” bags in the children’s library and are available for checkout.
Each bag focuses on a different subject, including:
- Alcohol and addiction
- Anxiety, depression and emotions
- Death and grief
- Diversity, equity and inclusion
- Immigration and refugees
- LGBTQ+ and diverse families
"We are happy to offer these bags as conversation starters to help families and caregivers broach difficult subjects such as death and grief as well as timely topics like diversity and immigration that are important for children to understand," said Callie Blackmer, youth services supervisor.
The bags are made possible by State Grants to Libraries. For more information, visit DurangoGov.org/Library or call (970) 375-3380.
