Rechargeable Battery & Cell Phone Recycling

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that more than 350 million rechargeable batteries are purchased annually in the United States. Batteries are comprised of heavy metals and other elements that make things "portable." Toxic heavy metals including nickel cadmium, alkaline, mercury, nickel metal hydride, and lead acid can threaten our environment if not properly discarded.

The following businesses have generously agreed to accept rechargeable batteries and/or cell phones at no cost for recycling:

Which Batteries?

If it’s rechargeable, it’s recyclable! Rechargeable batteries are commonly found in cordless power tools, cellular and cordless phones, laptop computers, digital cameras, two-way radios, camcorders, and remote control toys.

Non-rechargeable household batteries are recycled through a city / county program.

  • Most households use more than 5 cordless products, powered by rechargeable batteries.
  • Approximately 130 million cell phones are retired each year, but less than 3% of consumers recycle their old cell phones.
  • Recovered materials can be used to make new products - the cadmium is used to make new batteries, while the nickel and iron are used to make stainless steel products.
