Street Dance and Drone Show 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM Durango Transit Center
Arrive to eat and dance, stay for the drone show! Dance to the music of the M.C. Curry Organ Trio, playing from 6:00 pm to 7:15 pm and Desert Child, playing from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Take a break and enjoy excellent food from Subversion, The Crazy Coop, Taco’s La Carranza or Juicy’s Shanty – bison to beets, chicken to chimichangas, we have your food needs covered! Grab a cold one from the Ska Brewing Tent or from the Coca Cola counter. Kids and adults can enjoy a competitive cornhole game, try their luck at marshmallow golf, have their face painted and watch Ruby Balloon create balloon animals.
Once it is truly dark, watch as 125 drones light the skies of Durango with patriotic images. The drones will launch from Greenmount Cemetery. Best viewing is from the transit center. See map below for viewing corridors.
Desert Child is a rock band based out of the Four Corners, combining soul, country and alternative. With their screaming guitars, tight rhythm section and lush harmonies the boys will get you moving. Bring your dancing shoes and leave your blues at home.
M.C. Curry Organ Trio
The M.C. Curry Organ Trio brings you heavy improvisational and old-school funk, rhythm and blues. Featuring Ryan McCurry on the Hammond organ, Kevin McCarthy on electric guitar, and Clay Lowder on drums.
How do drone shows work?
Drone shows use hundreds – or even thousands – of synchronized, illuminated drones that create giant images hundreds of feet up in the air. Each drone is a 3D, independently position able pixel, turning the sky into a giant canvas.
How many drones do you need for a drone show?
100 to 150 drones is usually the minimum number of drones required for a show. Successful shows have been performed with as few as 50 drones in more intimate settings while world records have been set with thousands of drones. The City of Durango show will include 140 drones. We ordered a 125-drone show, and Verge Aero added extra drones at no cost to wow us!
What should I expect to see?
As the show starts, you will see a mass of lights fly into the sky from Greenmount Cemetery, which is the take off / landing zone. The lights will move into position and change color as they form patriotic images. The show lasts 10-12 minutes from take-off to landing, so be ready to watch at the start time.
Can I see the drones from anywhere?
The lights shine very brightly, so yes, you will be able to see the drones from a wide variety of places. HOWEVER, you will not necessarily be able to discern the images. The best viewing area is across from Greenmount Cemetery, with the Transit Center as the center of the best viewing.
