  1. Kids love scary stuff (but not too scary)! Sometimes it’s tough to find the right balance between scary-fun and downright frightening. Here are a few scary-fun book recommendations for the younger crowd:

The Doghouse by Jan Thomas shows us what happens when the animals lose a ball in the doghouse. One by one each goes in to fetch it...but they don’t come out! Thank goodness there is a pleasant surprise at the end.

In Mara Bergman’s Snip Snap: What’s That? A brother and sister are chased by an alligator. Were the children scared? You bet they were! But they find the courage to save themselves and scare the alligator away.

For the hard-to-scare, try Wolves in the Walls by Neil Gaiman. Lucy knows there are wolves in the walls but no one believes her—until they show their scary faces! But Lucy has a plan to scare them away.

There are so many great scary-fun books out there that may be perfect for your little one. Ask library staff to recommend one –just in time for Halloween. And don’t miss our Halloween Family Storytime at 10:30 AM on October 31!
