The City of Durango held a one-year Electric Bicycle (E-bike) Pilot Program from September 2017 to September 2018. The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, the Natural Lands Preservation Advisory Board and the Multi Modal Advisory Board held a Joint Advisory Board meeting on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 to discuss the results of the E-bike Pilot Program. The Joint Advisory Board then recommended to the Durango City Council to allow Class I and Class II E-bikes on designated trails. On December 18, 2018 the City Council passed an ordinance to amend chapter 18 of the City of Durango Code of Ordinances, authorizing the allowance of Class I and Class II E-bikes on the Animas River Trail, Florida Road Trail, and Goeglein Gulch Road Trail. E-bikes may be ridden on City streets and bike lanes at any time.
